A strong turnout of Yarrabah women at St Albans Church marked the official launch of SiStember 2026, kicking off a month dedicated to health, connection, yarning and sisterhood yesterday.
The launch provided an opportunity for women to come together, share stories, reflect and celebrate the strength, knowledge and wisdom of women across the Yarrabah community.
This year’s SiStember theme, ‘Wise Women Celebrating Sisterhood’, was reflected throughout the morning, with a special service celebrating the ‘Wise Women of the Bible’ providing a meaningful focus for the launch.
The large gathering highlighted the importance of creating safe and welcoming opportunities for Yarrabah women to connect, have a yarn and prioritise their health and wellbeing.
The launch also set the scene for a month of activities aimed at supporting women to access health information, participate in health checks, connect with one another and have important conversations about women’s health.
The strong attendance demonstrated the enthusiasm within community for SiStember and the opportunity it provides to bring women together in a supportive and culturally safe environment.
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services Aboriginal Corporation thanked all the women who attended the launch and contributed to making the morning a positive and meaningful start to the month.
With more activities planned throughout September, SiStember 2026 is set to continue providing opportunities for Yarrabah women to connect, look after their health and celebrate the strength of sisterhood.
