Yarrabah men came together in solid numbers at Gurriny Yealamucka’s SEWB Building on Noble Drive with the organisation’s Men’s Health Week Launch providing an opportunity to focus on health, wellbeing and community connection this morning.
Held as part of Men’s Health Week 2026, the event attracted local men and community members who gathered to share breakfast, connect with support services and take part in conversations aimed at improving health outcomes for men in Yarrabah.
The morning began with a well-attended breakfast barbecue before participants engaged in health and wellbeing activities and discussions throughout the event.
A key feature of the launch was the opportunity for local men to yarn with SEWB Men’s Health & Wellbeing Officer Ross Maloney and Uncle Darren, who encouraged attendees to take an active role in looking after their physical health, mental wellbeing and relationships.
Ross said the event was about helping men feel comfortable having conversations about health and seeking support when needed.
"Strong health starts with small steps. Having a yarn, checking in with a mate, booking a health check or asking for support can make a real difference," he said.
Uncle Darren said community gatherings such as Men’s Health Week helped reinforce the importance of men looking after themselves and one another.
The event reflected this year’s national Men’s Health Week theme, "See a GP", which encourages men to seek support early and maintain regular contact with health services.
Organisers described the morning as a success, highlighting the strong attendance, positive conversations and community spirit shown throughout the event.
