Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services was recognised on the national stage recently after taking out the General Practice category in the 2026 Heart Week Creative Display Competition.
The award celebrates the organisation’s vibrant and engaging Heart Week campaign, which transformed the Bukki Road Clinic waiting room into an eye-catching hub of heart health awareness and education for community.
The winning campaign was led by Katie, Jai, Devetta and Dr Oscar, whose creativity and teamwork helped deliver strong messaging around heart health and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) throughout Heart Week activities earlier this year.
Judges from the National Heart Foundation praised the campaign’s colourful presentation, community-focused messaging and engaging multimedia approach, particularly highlighting the video produced by Jai and the informative clinic display.
Among the judges’ comments were:
“Love the use of bright colours and hearts.”
“Not only an engaging display, but also had some very useful information about RHD.”
“Great video with clearly passionate staff and important heart health messaging!”
The campaign aimed to encourage community members to take proactive steps in caring for their heart health, while also raising awareness around the ongoing impacts of Rheumatic Heart Disease within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
As part of the national win, Gurriny Yealamucka has also received a $500 voucher from the National Heart Foundation.
Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such a creative, informative and community-driven campaign that has now been recognised across the country.
