Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services welcomed Joint Colleges Training Services (JCTS) Queensland Regional Manager, Marcy Holdsworth and Jane from Training Pathways for a site visit today, providing an opportunity to meet with our doctors and strengthen an important training partnership.
JCTS supports GP registrars undertaking general practice training, with a specific focus on cultural education and safety for registrars working within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services.
During the visit, Marcy and Jane met with our medical team to hear about the experiences of registrars and better understand their training and support needs while working in Yarrabah.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss registrar support, education opportunities, cultural safety, access to appropriate learning opportunities and the practical requirements of completing training within a community-controlled setting.
For advanced trainees, discussions can also include the time and support required to complete community-based projects and meet their educational requirements.
Regular site visits are an important part of JCTS’s work, allowing the organisation to maintain strong relationships with participating services, meet registrars and identify any emerging issues or opportunities for additional support.
JCTS Queensland works with GP registrars throughout their cultural education and journey towards Fellowship, while collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services and other stakeholders to strengthen training and contribute to improved health outcomes.
GYHSAC thanked Marcy and Jane for visiting the service, meeting with our doctors and continuing the longstanding relationship between JCTS and the GYHSAC team.
