Gurriny Yealamucka’s Public Health Team Leader Renee Grosso spent time delivering Healthy Skin Heroes Intensive Classes at Yarrabah Primary School recently — and it proved to be an inspiring and impactful few days.
Across 12 classes, from Prep through to Grade Six, every student took part in fun, hands-on 30-minute sessions focused on keeping skin clean, healthy, and infection-free.
Through games, demonstrations, and plenty of laughter, students learned the importance of washing with soap and how to care for small cuts and grazes picked up during play.
“These classes are all about giving our kids the knowledge and confidence to look after their own health,” Renee said.
“It’s amazing to see how engaged they are — they really take these lessons to heart.”
The Intensive Classes are part of Gurriny Yealamucka’s Healthy Skin Pack Program, delivered twice a year to encourage children to use their personal Healthy Skin Packs — filled with soap, nail brushes, bandages, and toothbrushes. Each classroom is also stocked with soaps from the Yarrabah Soap Program to help keep germs at bay.
Renee explained that these programs work together to create long-term change.
“Each one builds on the other,” she said.
“We’re helping our young people form habits that keep them strong, healthy, and proud — for life.”
