Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services proudly shared its ongoing commitment to growing a strong local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce at the recent Stronger Together: First Nations Health Equity & Workforce Forum in Cairns recently.
Gurriny Yealamucka Director People and Culture Tatiana Ah Kit presented the organisation's "Building Our Own" Workforce Initiative, highlighting how GYHSAC continues to invest in the Yarrabah community through meaningful education, employment and career development opportunities.
Held over two days at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, the forum brought together around 65 delegates from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, Hospital and Health Services, universities and government agencies from across Queensland.
Facilitated by Associate Professor Donald Whaleboat from James Cook University, the event focused on advancing health equity and strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce through collaboration, innovation and shared learning.
Tatiana's presentation showcased GYHSAC’s sustained commitment to creating sustainable career pathways that enable Yarrabah community members to learn, develop professionally and build rewarding careers close to home. The initiative reflects GYHSAC’s belief that investing in local people is key to delivering culturally safe, community-led healthcare now and into the future.
The forum also provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and learn from organisations leading workforce development initiatives across Queensland. These shared experiences and collaborative discussions will help inform GYHSAC’s ongoing efforts to build a skilled, resilient and culturally strong workforce.
