A strong community turnout and plenty of positive energy marked yesterday’s YPC 2026 Community Fun Run and Walk, with Yarrabah residents coming together to celebrate the unofficial launch of this year’s Yarrabah Youth Health Festival and Youth Prevention Campaign (YPC).
Community members of all ages participated in the event, walking and running from designated starting points at Gurriny Yealamucka and the local church before finishing at the jetty.
The event showcased the strong community spirit that continues to drive Yarrabah’s youth health initiatives, with participants supporting one another throughout the afternoon and helping create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Gurriny Yealamucka thanked all community members, volunteers, supporters and organisers who contributed to the success of the event.
While the Fun Run provided an opportunity for community members to come together and celebrate, it also marked the beginning of the countdown to the official launch of the 2026 Yarrabah Youth Health Festival next Monday, June 22.
Running over six weeks from the Bukki Road Clinic, the festival encourages Yarrie youth aged 15–30 to complete a health check, connect with support services, learn more about their health and wellbeing, and return for their results.
The Youth Health Festival has become one of Yarrabah’s most innovative youth-focused health initiatives, creating a culturally safe and welcoming space where young people can engage with health services in a positive way.
Popular activities returning this year include basketball, the juice bar and a range of youth engagement activities.
Adding to the excitement, actor, presenter and proud First Nations advocate Luke Carroll will visit Yarrabah on June 29 and 30 to meet local young people and participate in festival activities throughout the campaign.
