Yarrabah men came together at Wungu Beach for a well-attended Men’s On Country Self-Care Day focused on connection, culture and wellbeing today.

Hosted by Gurriny Yealamucka alongside local Rangers, respected Elders and community members, the event created an opportunity for men to spend time together on Country in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Throughout the day, participants took part in a range of activities including fishing, cooking fresh catch, damper making, beach clean-up activities and open discussions around health, wellbeing and everyday life.

The event encouraged local men to reconnect through culture, conversation and shared experiences, while also promoting the importance of self-care and positive wellbeing.

“There was a really positive feeling across the day,” Gurriny Yealamucka SEWB Men’s Health & Wellbeing Officer Ross Maloney said.

“You could see the conversations happening naturally, men checking in with one another, sharing stories and simply enjoying being together on Country.

“It’s important to have days like this where our men can slow down and reconnect.”

Gurriny Yealamucka thanked all community members, Rangers and Elders who contributed their time and support in helping make the day a success.
