Yarrabah came together in force, with a large crowd taking part in the R U OK? & World Suicide Prevention Day Community March before continuing the day’s activities at Bishop Malcolm Park earlier today.
Residents, families, Elders, staff and supporters gathered at the corner of Workshop Road and Muku Street before walking together to Bishop Malcolm Park, sending a strong community message about the importance of connection, checking in and looking out for one another.
The large turnout continued throughout the day at the park, where community members enjoyed a range of activities designed to bring people together in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The day included a free BBQ, music, cupcakes, tea and coffee, prizes and opportunities for yarning, connection and conversation. The activities provided a chance for community members to relax, spend time together and continue conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.
The event highlighted the strength of Yarrabah’s community spirit and the importance of creating safe spaces where people can connect and support one another.
At the heart of the day was the simple but powerful question, “R U OK?”
Asking someone how they are doing can open the door to an important conversation and help remind people that they are not alone, while letting them know they are seen, heard and cared for.
GYHSAC thanks everyone who joined the march, attended the community activities and contributed to making the day such a success.
The strong turnout demonstrated once again how Yarrabah can come together to support one another and promote connection, care and wellbeing across the community.
