About the Artwork, Woven Remedies

Aunty Philomena Yeatman

Woven Remedies is a story-rich visual journey that honours the interconnectedness of culture, community and healing.  It is both a reflection and a reminder:  a woven tapestry of shared strength, ancestral wisdom, and the choices we make together for a better tomorrow

This artwork  is not only a celebration of who we are, but a vision of who we can become.  It is an offering of hope and a call to continue weaving with purpose, with pride and with each other.

At the centre of the artwork lies the Guyula (Sea Hawk) with the totem of Yarrabah standing strong as a symbol of identity, belonging and deep-rooted cultural knowledge.  This totem anchors the piece, reminding us of who we are, where we come from, and the sacred responsibilities we hold to our land and each other.

Surrounding the totem are the ever-expanding circles of the Ripple Story, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and consider how their actions shape not only their own lives but the lives of those around them.  Like ripples in water, each decision carries energy, contributing to the ongoing growth and well-being of our families, our communities, and our futures.

The People Story emerges through figures united in movement and purpose, a tribute to the strength, resilience, and unity of people and kinship.  Together they embody a collective commitment to healthy choices and mutual care, grounded in love, tradition and shared vision.

Flowing through the piece is the Springs Story, where healing waters represent the continuous guidance of our Old People.  These sacred springs ever-present offering clarity, nurturing spirit and reminding us to walk our paths with respect, integrity and cultural truth.
