Bringing Them Home in Yarrabah

Grounded in culture, community, and connection, this project is helping to rebuild wellbeing, identity, and resilience – one story, one step, and one family at a time.

The Bringing Them Home in Yarrabah (BTHY) project recognises the impacts of intergenerational trauma, dispossession, family separation, racism, and social disadvantage on the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It supports healing through strength-based, culturally safe, trauma-aware, and healing-informed approaches.

The BTHY project aims to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing wherever possible by providing counselling, healing activities and/or other social and emotional wellbeing supports to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, prioritising the needs of members of the Stolen Generations and their families.  This program supports strong, healthy and resilient individuals, families and communities, which in turn may enhance pathways to education and employment and reduce substance abuse, violence and contact with the criminal justice system.
