Child Health Services

The Child Health Team is committed to keeping Yarrabah’s children strong, deadly, and healthy from six weeks to 15 years old – supporting not just their physical wellbeing, but their spiritual, emotional and mental health, too.

The Child Health Team provide support and information on parenting, child development, and health promotion, empowering families to make informed decisions about their children’s health and wellbeing.  The Child Health Team work in partnership with all areas of (GYHSAC’s) clinical and social and emotional wellbeing teams.

This collaborative approach ensures that Yarrabah families have access to a wide range of services that address all aspects of a child’s health and wellbeing.

Services provided:

  • 715 Health Check specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  The check aims to support early detection, diagnosis, and intervention for common and chronic conditions
  • Childhood immunisations as per the National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule – vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, rotavirus, meningococcal, MMR (measles-mumps-rubella)
  • Adolescent and school-based vaccines – HPV, meningococcal ACWY, catch-up vaccinations
  • Kindies program – visiting Yarrabah kindy twice a week to run early childhood education and play sessions
  • “Look Ear” program – focusing on ear health to support hearing, speech, and learning.
  • School health checks – 715 assessments and support in partnership with Yarrabah Primary and Secondary schools, Clontarf Foundation and GYHSAC’s Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) Teams.
  • Home visits – bringing care directly to families when needed
