GYHSAC NAIDOC Day

Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services Aboriginal Corporation invites the community to gather in Yarrabah for a powerful celebration of culture, community and good healing. Guided by Elders and cultural leaders, the day opens with Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony, before moving into a vibrant program of dance, music and yarning that centres Gunggandji culture and the shared history that makes Yarrabah strong.

Across the site you’ll find a “50 Years of Deadly” family‑friendly arts activities, and stalls showcasing local talent and services. Our health team will be on hand for friendly yarns, quick wellbeing checks and bookings for 715 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Checks, supporting preventive care close to home. Kids can enjoy creative workshops and games, and there’ll be healthy food options and shaded rest spaces throughout the day. Free, family‑friendly and alcohol‑free - everyone is welcome.

About the theme & week:
Our event sits within National NAIDOC Week, running Sunday 5 July to Sunday 12 July 2026, a national celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The official 2026 theme “50 Years of Deadly” marks five decades of NAIDOC themes amplifying culture, truth‑telling and community leadership.
