Excitement is continuing to build across Yarrabah, with just 20 days remaining until the community comes together for this year’s “Express Yourself” Community Fun Run and Walk on Thursday, June 18.
The vibrant event will once again see community members walk, run and celebrate along the iconic route to the jetty, transforming the day into a colourful celebration of identity, culture and connection.
The Fun Run marks the unofficial launch of Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services’ 2026 Youth Prevention Campaign (YPC), which has been reimagined this year as a six-week Youth Health Festival officially beginning on Monday, June 22.
Gurriny Yealamucka Public Health Team Leader and event co-ordinator Renee Grosso said the event played an important role in building excitement and community momentum ahead of the campaign.
“The community fun run is about creating a positive first step and momentum ahead of the early stages of YPC,” Ms Grosso said.
“We want Yarrabah young people to feel that health is something they can enjoy, something that belongs to them and something they can take pride in.”
Participants are encouraged to dress up, wear bright colours, form teams and take part in what is expected to again be a high-energy and well-supported community event.
The Fun Run also helps set the tone for the broader Youth Health Festival, which will focus on supporting young people aged 15–30 to complete health checks and return for their results.
With anticipation growing, community members are encouraged to start planning outfits, organising teams and preparing to take part in the celebration of wellbeing and self-expression.
