More than 30 men gathered for the Gurriny Yealamucka weekly men’s get together/ yarns and sharing program today.
The session provided a timely opportunity to reflect on Yarrabah's foundations, strengthen connections and discuss the role Yarrabah men continue to play in shaping the community's future.
Held at St Albans, the gathering focused on health and wellbeing, community leadership and the importance of creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for future generations.
Participants were encouraged to reflect on the values that underpin Yarrabah and explore practical ways local men can continue contributing to a stronger and healthier community.
As part of the session, Gurriny Yealamucka SWEB Men’s Health Coordinator Darren Miller also led a discussion on National Reconciliation Week and this year's theme, "Bridging Now to Next", highlighting the importance of learning from our shared histories, cultures and achievements while continuing to build stronger relationships and opportunities for future generations.
Attendees were encouraged to think about how reconciliation can be supported through everyday actions — whether that's sharing knowledge, starting meaningful conversations, listening to different perspectives or speaking up on issues that matter to community.
The session also highlighted the range of services currently available to Yarrabah men as well as future opportunities and programs that will continue supporting local families and community wellbeing.
Guest speaker Brian Fourmile shared a message of hope and encouragement, reminding participants that with faith, determination and belief, anything is possible.
Chris Burns delivered a powerful reflection on resilience, speaking about life's challenges and the importance of staying focused on the positives, standing strong through adversity and not allowing negative influences to determine our direction.
Alongside meaningful conversations, participants were provided with meals, refreshments, transport assistance and information about community services.
The weekly Men's Group continues to grow as an important space for connection, cultural strength, support and leadership — empowering Yarrabah men to walk strong, support one another and help build a brighter future for Yarrabah.
