Several younger members of the Gurriny Yealamucka team remained inspired and filled with a sense of purpose after attending the NACCHO Aboriginal Health Australia National Youth Conference in Sydney.
From the moment the doors opened, our mob stepped into sessions designed to lift young voices, spark ideas and build the next generation of leaders.
They took part in:
Story seeds — sharing lived experiences, connecting with young people from across the country, and planting the roots for future leadership.
Stories of strength — hearing from community-controlled organisations about the legacy today’s youth will inherit and shape.
Leaves of change — thinking big, challenging assumptions and exploring bold, creative solutions for community wellbeing.
Future in our hands panel — our youth heard advisors tackling big questions about leadership, culture and change.
Pathways with purpose — exploring what careers in community, health, advocacy and leadership can look like.
Grounded strength — a space focused on mental health, balance and staying strong while stepping into leadership roles.
Youth Governance in action — where young people took the mic, voted, and stepped into real decision-making.
Our younger Gurriny Yealamucka contingent left the conference feeling energised, connected and proud — carrying new skills, stronger confidence and a shared commitment to shaping a healthier, more empowered Yarrabah.
Deadly work to everyone who attended — you represented Yarrabah with pride, passion and purpose.
