Yarrabah men are being encouraged to take positive steps towards their health and wellbeing when Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services officially launches Men’s Health Week at Bishop Malcolm Park next Tuesday, June 16.
The community event will run from 9am to 1pm and is open to all men, families, community members and local services.
Led by Gurriny Yealamucka’s Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Men’s Health & Wellbeing Program, the launch will feature a free breakfast barbecue, haircuts, guest speakers, health and wellbeing activities, community information stalls and opportunities for men to connect with local support services.
The event coincides with Men’s Health Week 2026, which carries the national theme “See a GP”, highlighting the importance of seeking support when something does not feel right physically, mentally or emotionally.
SEWB Men’s Health & Wellbeing Officer Ross Maloney said the launch is designed to create a welcoming environment where men can learn about available supports and have conversations about their overall wellbeing.
“Men’s health is about taking a whole-of-health approach. It includes physical health, mental wellbeing, emotional resilience, healthy relationships and staying connected to family, culture and community,” he said.
Gurriny Yealamucka is particularly encouraging men aged 30 years and over to attend, connect with local services and take advantage of the information and support available throughout the day.
Local organisations are also invited to participate and showcase programs that contribute to stronger health and wellbeing outcomes for Yarrabah men, families and the broader community.
